Sometimes psychological models make the same behavioral predictions but they appeal to radically different processes. In those cases, we turn to brain data to adjudicate. This is cognitive neuroscience; leveraging brain data to draw conclusions about the mind.

Our lab collects neural data from human participants using functional neuroimaging, and electroencephalography. We manipulate brain states using transcranial magnetic stimulation. We conduct meta-analyses of the functional imaging literature in collaboration with the Kober Lab, to hone and test our predictions.

For example, we have been searching for social and domain-general prediction errors, so that we can compare explanations of paranoia. We collaborate with the Taylor Lab to conduct preclinical rodent studies - implementing the same behavioral tasks and computational analyses in rodents during more direct and precise neural manipulations.
